Pablo Isla is the chairman (since 2011) and CEO (since 2005) of Inditex, the world’s largest fashion retailer whose flagship brand is Zara. After studying law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Isla began his career as a civil servant. He became a state attorney for the Spanish government in 1988 and later provided legal services for the Ministry of Transport, Tourism and Communications from 1989 to 1991. Isla then transitioned to the private sector, taking on the role of director of legal services for Banco Popular from 1992 to 1996. He returned to the public sector when he was appointed general director of state assets at the Ministry of Economy and Finances. Isla rejoined Banco Popular in 1998, this time as general secretary, and in 2000 he left to become chairman of the Altadis tobacco group, where he served until being recruited to Inditex.
