Jamie Kelly is interested in the sources, distributions, and transformations of gases and particles (aerosol) in the atmosphere. He explores atmospheric chemistry by using numerical models. Kelly received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Chemistry at the University of Leeds (UK). During this time, Kelly was provided with an understanding of the fundamental concepts of chemistry and how they can be applied to the atmosphere. He then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Edinburgh (UK). During this time, Kelly used a global chemistry-climate model to investigate the distribution of aerosol in the present-day, and how this might change in the future. Now at MIT, Kelly’s objective is to characterise the sources, transformations and health impacts of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) using a chemical transport model.
